He stops mid-story when you speak

He is explaining something about his brother’s boat to six people, and you say ‘wait, what?’ from the far end of the table. He stops. Mid-sentence, mid-gesture. The table waits with him.
Nobody on the guest list could say it out loud, but they all saw it. He finishes the boat story later, directly to you. Most men hold a room. This one hands it over without being asked, and it feels oddly like being chosen.
The way he stands changes

Watch him cross a room twice, once before you arrive and once after. The first time he leans on things. The second time his shoulders square, his hands come out of his pockets and he stands like someone expecting an answer.
No drama. He just stops looking relaxed and starts looking ready. Your sister, three drinks in, whispers ‘okay, he has decided’, and she might be right. If you want to be sure, leave the room and see who follows you with his eyes.
