One word: landed?

One word, nothing before or after. It arrives the minute your plane touches the ground, which means he checked the arrival time and has apparently been waiting without telling you.
He does not ask for updates and he does not ask for proof. Just ‘landed?’, and ‘yes’ is enough. The question is much smaller than the effort behind it, and he is counting on you not noticing.
The song you made a face at

You grimaced once at a song on the radio, something with a saxophone and a lot of ambition. Weeks later, on a long drive, he reaches for the dial before the intro finishes and changes the station without a word.
He treats your opinions as data. Not every preference needs a conversation, and some of them just need a hand on a dial. It is a small, dry kind of devotion and it comes with a very straight face.
